Top Three Late Model Drivers Going Into 2022 Stafford Speedway Racing Season

Updated: Feb 16, 2022

The Stafford Motor Speedway is entering into the 2022 racing season in late April. The season starts off with opening day on a Saturday, followed by the 50th running of the Spring Sizzler on the 24th. The track is coming off of an action packed and historic year for racing and it looks to get even more intense in ‘22. Coming into the racing season the track has several drivers moving up or switching teams along with new drivers entering for the first time, but for every weekly division there will always be stand out drivers. This week NYSS Race Day is featuring the Late Model division at the track.

Listed below is a list of the top three drivers of the Late Model division at the track along with an honorable mention, the list is based on sole stats.

Late Model top three - Michael Bennett - Kevin Gambacorta - Mike Wray - (HM - Zack Robinson)

1st - Michael Bennett had new sights in 2021 with a new team, big things were expected for the veteran driver and big things came. Michael Bennett would win five races while finishing top five over ten times and had seventeen times. With that dominating season came a championship win. Despite a tie of 792-points with defending champion Adam Gray, Bennett was given the win.

2nd - In 2020 Kevin Gambacorta saw one of the worst seasons of his career as he was spotted p7 in points. 2021 was a new page with new highlights as Gambacorta went to victory lane three times with the hat-trick on the season. A top five points finish was helped by 9 top five finishes and finishing in the top ten a total of 15 times.

3rd - Mike Wray has been chasing the Late Model Championship since 2015 and 2021 he came just 57-points from the win. A lone win capped up a frankly impressive season for the 2008 World Formula Champion as Wray got 9 TOP5s and 16 TOP10s.

HM - For Zack Robinson you either love him or dislike him as a driver. The young gun moved up to the Late Models after winning the 2020 Street Stock Championship. Despite the new scenery Robinson adjusted extremely well and would win a race. With the lone win marking his only top five finish, Robinson would finish outside the top ten in points with only five top ten finishes. Without a doubt though Zack Robinson has the momentum going into 2022 after his solid rookie season.
