We recently saw the 2023 NASCAR Hall of Fame inductions ceremonies, and with that came a speech that deserves its own spot in the HoF.
Hershel McGriff is 95 years-old, he started racing just two weeks after World War II ended. Most recently he competed in 2018 in the ARCA series at age 90, that start made him the oldest person in racing history to compete. It is not the end of the story for McGriff as he plans to still compete when he turns 100.
While up on the podium with his HoF ring and eye-catching blue jacket, McGriff would say a very short thank you speech that would go viral: “My speech shouldn't be too long, because most of the people I have to thank are dead.”
McGriff had a career for the ages and with that he had a speech that will never get old.
