On Friday night the lights went on at the Stafford Speedway for the Call Before You Dig (CBYD) Open Modified 81, but before we got to the main event we saw the Stafford Speedway weekly racing divisions.
The Late Model division has been getting more and more intense throughout the past several seasons as the competition ramps up. For as long as anyone could remember it was always Tom Fearn that would dominate race in and race out as he has 56 wins in the Late Models. Fearn's last win came on August 29th, 2019 as Fearn went winless for the first time since 2011 last season. Last night that would all change as Tom Fearn would make it 57 wins total, parking the no.92 Stafford Speedway Late Model in victory lane, holding off Ryan Fearn. It was truly a battle of the Fearns last night who have so much success at the local track, having a combined win total that puts you over 85!
Last night we saw the first open modified race at Stafford for the season and as usual it produced some great racing. Last time the open modifies were at the track was back in September where we saw Woody Pitkat get it done in the Twisted Tea Open Modified 80. It was a new race last night and we ended up seeing a new winner as Michael Christopher Jr. driving the no.7 New York for Tommy Baldwin Racing gets his first open modified win of 2021, holding off Cup Series driver Ryan Preece. Christopher Jr. took the lead on lap 50 from Preece and led the final 31 to win.
