Stafford Speedway Race(s) Recap 5/7/21

Last night kicked off the first night of racing that featured all five of the Stafford Speedway local racing divisions as the engines fired first for the Street Stock 20 lap feature. Overall we saw once again a very exciting race at the historic track, we also saw a lot of drama as well with huge amounts of emotion. Lets take a look at the race(s) recap.

Street Stock Race Recap

The Street Stock division always features good racing in just their short 20 lap frame, we had Bert Ouellette start on the pole with Travis Downey on the outside pole. During the feature we saw several cautions so it was kind of hard to see who preformed better on the long run, with that said though we did see some great action due to the field being stacked up due to the restarts. At the end it would be Travis Hydar taking down the win, this is his 5th win in his 5th season, overall it is his 1st win of 2021. Hydar is being considered as a contender for the championship and right now he is in a great spot as last race he finished 6th.

Late Model Race Recap

For the Late Model division we saw Paul Varricchio Jr start up front with Rick Lanagan, both drivers would get shuffled back though throughout the 30 laps. This was not the race that Tom Fearn wanted as he got caught up in trouble and finished 20th after starting 8th on the grid, Fearn continues his winless streak that started back in September of 2019. We saw Ryan Fearn move his way up from 15th to 3rd by the end of the race, the no.12 car looked locked in tonight. Andrew Molleur is still new to the Late Models as he continues to do double time this season, he picked up seven spots from 16th to 9th in those 30 laps. At the end though it was Michael Bennett getting the win, this is his second win this season which makes him undefeated so far and allows his points lead to grow.

Limited Late Model Race Recap

The Limited Late Models is the smallest weekly racing division at Stafford, but it produces racing just as good as the other four divisions. We had R.J. Surdell on pole with Matt Clement along side. At the end it was a great battle between Rich Hammann, Alexandra Fearn (last race winner) and Jeremy Lavoie, but it was Hammann getting the win. In Rich Hammann's 14 years of racing and 166 starts he is now a race winner (167th start) at the historic Stafford Motor Speedway, putting his name in the history books alongside some elite names. Jay Clement also had a night to remember as he got his first career top five at Stafford.

SK Lite Race Recap

The SK Lite feature would see Derek Debbis take home the win, holding off seasoned veteran Chris Matthews. During the race we saw a very scary wreak between several cars that would end up halting the race due to track repairs on the guardrail that was damaged by the impact, both drivers were ok.

SK Modified Race Recap

We saw the #1 car start p1 as Tyler Leary had pole with Mikey Flynn starting besides him. Jonathan Puleo was back in the car tonight after a scary wreak that occurred during the opening day race, he would finish 20th. Tyler Hines has been the car to beat this season as he has not finished outside the top three, tonight he finished 3rd and still holds the points lead. Keith Rocco has not had the start to the season he would like as through the first two races, weather it was in the heat or feature races the no.88 left the track on the hook, Rocco was able to finish 2nd after starting 9th on the grid. Michael Christopher Jr would take home the win, this is his 7th win at Stafford. This win comes after a top 10 finish last week.
