Dave Sapienza Looking To Rebound After Rough Start To Season

Dave Sapienza has been in the Whelen Modified Tour since 2014, throughout those seven seasons he has made his name more and more well known in the racing world. In the 2020 season Sapienza had a career season as others struggled due to the COVID-19 virus, with that said the season was shortened down several races to get the season in with nine races total. In that season Sapienza had an average start of 9th and an average finish of 11th, giving him a points finish of 7th (292 points) and a ton of momentum going into 2021. During the offseason Dave Sapienza appeared on the New York Sports Show for an exclusive interview, in the interview Sapienza said if he doesn't win (a race) "It would kill me (Sapienza)" so going into the 2021 season Sapienza definitely has high expectations for him and the team.

We are currently two races into the 2021 Whelen Modified Tour racing season and so far it is everything that Sapienza did not want. Two races and two DNFs as he got turned by Kyle Bonsignore at Martinsville, knocking him out of the race. To add gas to the fire NASCAR fined Sapienza as when he got out of his car he made several steps towards the pacing line of cars. Going into Stafford for the 49th annual Spring Sizzler Dave Sapienza was sporting a new paint scheme which featured him behind prison bars in a protest to the fine. In the race we saw Sapienza running strong until him and Tyler Rypkema made contact, knocking both drivers out of the race.

Dave Sapienza has an average finish of 27th and sits 26th in the points standings two races in. There is more then enough time for Sapienza to dig himself out of this hole, overall he has been running very well picking up where he left off in '19, but has been caught up in bad luck.
