Stafford Speedway Race(s) Recap 4/30/21

Stafford Speedway had their second week of racing as opening day weekend occurred last week (Saturday) and were supposed to occur on Sunday, but to to rain the 49th annual Spring Sizzler along with its other respected weekly racing features were postponed to Saturday. Last night we saw non stop SK Modified racing as the features had fields of SK Lites, SK Modifieds, Vintage Modifieds and the Whelen Modified Tour. (To see Whelen Tour recap click here )

SK Modified Race Recap

Last week we saw Tyler Hines get an upset win, this week we saw Stephen Kopcik get it done after starting second. Kopcik got one win last season, so already he has matched his win total very early in the season and is looking to add to it. In a recent interview with the New York Sports Show Kopcik said he is gunna "chase" after wins. Keith Rocco took a hit in points as he finished 18th after starting 10th, with that said he is now 8th in the points standings. Coming out of this race Tyler Hines still has the point lead as he is plus 14 over Todd Owen, this is the best start that Hines has gotten since his SK Lite days.

SK Lite Race Recap

The SK Lite division saw a packed field as we saw seven drivers fail to qualify for the event, with the likes of Meghan Fuller and Sami Anderson being among those seven. At the drop of the green flag we saw George Bessette Jr in p1 as he started on pole, he would then lose the lead shortly after to Derek Debbis, who failed to start this race last year. Coming to the end Bessette was gaining on Debbis, but there was not enough time left as Derek Debbis gets the win and with this being the first race of the season for the Lites', he will get the points lead. On the final lap we saw a scary wreak happen with several cars going into the wall, damaging it. All drivers involved were ok, but track repairs to the wall took place delaying the Whelen Modified Tour feature.

Vintage Modified Race Recap

We do not get to see the Vintage Modifieds around Stafford much, so it is ways a treat to do so. At the end of the very short 15 lap feature we saw Ben Levangie take home the black and white flag as he wins it after starting on pole. This division had the smallest field with only eight cars total starting the race.
