The local racing scene has been around since the dawn of time, it has grown to be the backbone of the major racing series over the past several years. Here in 2022 just weeks before many local racing seasons start, the scene looks to be at it’s highest point in decades. It all started really with COVID, the virus shutdown of NASCAR had many fans go to their local tracks that were still open. 2020 featured many new fans in the racing scene, along with 2021 with restrictions going away more opportunities came to go watch some good ol’ fashion grass root racin’. 2021 the SRX Series took the green flag, a six race season with some of the best drivers to ever compete all racing at local short tracks, the fan response was huge. 2022 was met with many changes in the NASCAR Cup Series, mainly to its car, but the past several years featured fans leaving due to stage racing. Hundreds of fans that follow local racing no longer follow the major NASCAR Series, with many more still leaving and going local then 2022 may just be set to be one of, if not the biggest year in grass root racing.
