Are We At The End Of The Doug Coby ERA?

Are we at the end of this historic ‘Doug Coby Era?’ Whelen Modified Tour driver Doug Coby who is a 6-time champion has had declining stats over the past two seasons, although still consistent Coby has been falling behind to younger talent and other drivers being in their prime. You can also add that he has no true focus as he has competed in several other racing series during the past two seasons, but mainly the most recent season.

It is without a doubt that Doug Coby has changed modified racing and still continues to, but as a whole his performance has been on the decline. With Doug Coby going down and long time rival Justin Bonsignore taking the modified world by storm, it may be safe to say that we are in the ‘Bonsignore Era.’ Doug Coby has lost back-to-back championships (2020 & 2021) that is the first time he has done that in over a decade (2009 & 2010) where he finished p18 and p27 in the standings.

Now I wanna make clear that I am not saying that Doug Coby will never win again or anything like that, but most likely we will see Coby continue to decline, you can only be in the spotlight for so long until that light dies out. All eyes will be on Coby this upcoming season in 2022 for him to perform with him winning races or even championship no.7, as a whole though throughout the years Doug Coby has done everything possible when it comes to modified racing. ‘For Love of the Game’ no, ‘For Love of the Race’... That is the only way to describe Doug Coby’s racing career. No matter what Coby will always be in the racing scene, but at the same time who can not? It’s NASCAR!
