The Camping World SRX Series is getting ready to drop the green flag for their inaugural season as they open up at Stafford Motor Speedway this Saturday. The race comes just 333 days after the series was announced on July 13th, 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic. This race will be without a doubt a historic day for the racing world with this new series starting. Many people compare the SRX Series to the IROC Series which held races from 1974 to 2006, overall that series was very popular and many expect the SRX to be the same.
It was announced just several days ago that Camping World would be the title sponsor for the series. Even though the SRX Series is a racing series in America it has no alliance with NASCAR.
There will be a total of 12 drivers racing with 10 of them being fully eligible for points, the drivers who are not are called the 'ringers' and those drivers are multi-time Cup Series winner Greg Biffle and local superstar Doug Coby. Before the race we will see two heat races, each being 15 minutes long, with that said it gives the series a little bit of an endurance style to the racing. After the first heat race the field will be inverted and the second heat race will start and for each heat race drivers can earn points. After the heat races we will see 100 laps of racing at the historic 0.5 mile track. For those who know Stafford Speedway know that those 100 laps will tick down fast so it will be interesting to see how the drivers go by it.
