Should SK Lite Drivers Have Spotters?

Over the past few weeks we have seen fans and drivers speak out about having spotters for SK Lite racing, particularly the races at the Stafford Motor Speedway. Over the past several races the historic track located near the Connecticut/Massachusetts line has seen some hard crashes in the SK Lite division. The thing is that its not just one car, it is almost the entire field involved and it does massive damage to not only the cars, but to the track as well. Already not even half way though the season Stafford Speedway has had to hold off on racing to allow time for track repairs to the wall.

Overall crashing is a part of racing and always had been, but it can also be prevented to at least some degree. The SKL division is known as the 'learning division' for the SK Modified division, but there are drivers who have been in the division for years making a career out of it.

With that said you have seasoned veterans of the sport going up against rookies straight out of karts, it just does not mix well and leads to crashes and bonehead moves. Having a spotter can lead to a lesser chance of big crashes, but it's not guaranteed. The biggest thing no matter what comes down to skill and experience, we have seen drivers go from karts to street stocks and up, weather its late models or SK Lites, but at the end of the day they are getting more experience. Drivers who go from Karts on Monday to SK Lites on Friday have a bigger chance percentage to crash or to cause a crash. That percentage is up by about 6.82% than if the drivers worked their way up.

Stafford Speedway produces great racing and there is no doubt about that, but if nothing is changed it can lead to an injury.
