Stan Mertz is the team owner of Stan Mertz Racing (SMR) which fields Woody Pitkat's no.6 Modified. Mertz Racing competes in the Tri Track Modified Series along with select modified races at the Stafford Motor Speedway.
Mertz started driving himself in the Seekonk Speedway Sport Trucks and the Pro 4 Modified division, transferring to the modified rankings in 2013. It was not until 2015 that Mertz turned into a full-time car owner, with that said he chose Modified great Woody Pitkat to drive for him. Woody Pitkat is inside the top five for all time wins at Stafford Motor Speedway and has several wins in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.
Overall S.M.R has had success as they quickly became the team to beat in the very competitive series.
