AlphaTauri has been the feeder team for Red Bull Racing for the last decade plus, bringing up world class drivers who have won Grand Prix's and even championships. AlphaTauri (formally Toro Rosso) has been gaining on the Formula One grid over the past several seasons to the point where the team are regular point finishers and can be considered a midfield to a semi contender organization. AlphaTauri have won several races and seem to be forming a pattern of winning at least once a season, one of its biggest drivers is Pierre Gasly has been a major part to the development in the past several seasons as he has been a consistent points finisher along with a race winner and a podium finisher.
With the next gen car being on the grid for 2022 many people along with teams are not fully sure on how this will affect the grid (Performance wise.) We can easily see some mid teams form into top ones and if so AlphaTauri can without a doubt be one. The fact they have almost a constant push of young talent almost every 2-3 years on average can set them up for success as the Red Bull driver program has some of the best next gen drivers in its system.
If AlphaTauri is able/does become a top contender the biggest question would be “Where would Red Bull sit?” Based on projections the Red Bull team is set to be a top contender. Most likely Red Bull would not fully allow Alpha to form into an Alpha team fully as it is mainly in F1 for driver development. The biggest thing is that as a whole AlphaTauri is its own team and just has an affiliation with Red Bull, if they do become a top team we can see a four way driver rivalry between the two Alpha drivers and the two Red Bull drivers.
