Formula One makes its way to the Silverstone Circuit this Sunday for the famous British Grand Prix. Up to this point we have see Red Bull Racing put on a clinic on the other teams on the F1 grid, mainly though on Mercedes. Red Bull and Mercedes have been in the points battle for both the drivers championship and the constructors championship, but now it is starting to look like Red Bull has won it all already as they are pulling away massively thanks to points leader and star driver, Max Verstappen.
Max Verstappen has a 32-point lead on Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton, this is mainly due to Max's five wins this season compared to Hamilton's three. By Max winning and showing up almost every GP on one of the top three steps on the podium, along with help from teammate Sergio Perez we have also seen Red Bull take a 40+ point lead in the Constructors standings (44pts.)
The most points a driver can earn in a race is 25pts (26pts if you get fastest lap and race win) which means that Max Verstappen almost has a two Grand Prix points lead over Lewis Hamilton. The most points a team can earn in one race weekend is 43pts (1st & 2nd place finishes (44pts if the occurs along with a driver of that team with the fastest lap.)) When you look at the numbers and recent trends, technically Verstappen can extend his point lead to 40+ points and even over a full two grand prixes if Hamilton does not show up and perform this Sunday. With that being said the gap would be huge by Formula One standards, making it almost impossible for Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes to catch up.
