Robert Kubica Completes First F1 Grand Prix Weekend Since 2019

For the first time since the 2019 Formula One season we saw Robert Kubica strap into an F1 car for a grand prix weekend. Kubica was filling in for the COVID stricken Kimi Raikkonen for the Dutch Grand Prix at the Zandvoort circuit. Kubica is the reserve driver for the Alfa Romeo F1 team, overall he last was a starting driver in 2019 for Williams. The first ever Polish driver is a true fan favorite despite him only having six full seasons under his belt from the late 2000s mainly. The lack of F1 racing is due to a horrific rally crash where Kubica suffered life-threatening injuries after a guardrail impaled his car and struck him. Due to the crash Kubica has little use in his arm due to a partial amputation from the crash and folks Zandvoort is one of, if not the most ‘armed’ track in F1 as heavy G turns are almost everywhere with little rest on the straightaways.

Just from that alone the Grand Prix weekend would be extremely difficult for Kubica. Overall in the race Kubica would finish p15 after already starting in the back as he never made it out of Q1. I have to say though for what Robert Kubica has been through for all the injuries, plus not racing in F1 since 2019 he did a heck of a job and for a majority of the race Kubica was in front of Alfa teammate, Antonio Giovinazzi who would finish p14 after starting inside the top ten.
