Rumors have been many and rampant when it comes to McLaren’s Daniel Ricciardo and his future with the team and in the auto racing series of Formula One. Daniel Ricciardo is on a contract that would keep him with the McLaren team until the end of the 2023 Formula One season, but there are mechanisms within his contract that would allow Ricciardo to leave after the 2022 season. This comes as Ricciardo has underperformed heavily so far during his stay with the team compared to much younger teammate Lando Norris. The McLaren team recently signed IndyCar champion Alex Palou to its roster and have had IndyCar favorites Colton Herta and Pato O’Ward test the McLaren machinery over the past several months.
It is rumored that Ricciardo will be dropped by McLaren at the end of 2022 and be replaced by Colton Herta or Formula One Aston Martin Racing driver Sebastain Vettel. Daniel Ricciardo has spoken out on social media saying that he wants to and plans to stay with the McLaren team until the end of 2023, of course though that stay could be cut a year short. It is expected that Daniel Ricciardo would leave Formula One entirely if dropped by the team and go Australian V8 Supercar racing.
