Max Verstappen Wins Sprint Race To Get Pole For British Grand Prix

Today we saw the first ever Formula One sprint race as the drivers went for 17-laps to decide the British Grand Prix starting order. In the qually for this event we saw Lewis Hamilton put up the best time to get pole for the real qually. Overall this race is very important for the points standings as the top three are awarded points. In a way due to the short distance this gave me vibes of the F1 video games as when do you ever see a 17-lap race unless its a video game? The tire choice was free for all teams and drivers and there are no mandatory pit stops so a driver can go full distance on the same tire they took the green light with.

Right at the start Max Verstappen took the lead before turn one as a HAAS car spun in the background. One lap in and Fernando Alonso already went from p11 to p5, showing a massive amount of speed. Going into lap five it was Verstappen of Red Bull Racing leading the field and also getting the fastest lap of the race. Also on lap five Verstappen's teammate, Sergio Perez spun, damaging his front wing. With ten laps to go Verstappen built what was almost a two second lead over Hamilton as both drivers kept switching who was the fastest car on this tricky track. At the end it would be Max Verstappen winning the 17 lapper to get pole for the British Grand Prix as teammate Sergio Perez retires with damage.
