A record is set to be broken at the upcoming Azerbaijan Grand Prix this Sunday. Alpine’s star driver Fernando Alonso will be taking on the Baku street circuit, marking 21 years, three months and eight days since his Formula One debut at the 2001 Australian Grand Prix. That time span will break Michael Schumacher’s current record of 21 years and three months exactly. Alonso formally raced against Schumacher for several seasons and beat him to win the 2006 Formula One World Championship. Overall the two-time champ stepped away briefly from the F1 spotlight after four poor performance years with McLaren, returning last season with Alpine. Michael Schumacher retired from the auto racing series in 2012 after the Brazilian Grand Prix where he finished p14 after a 13th place grid start in his Mercedes powered car.
