Will Lewis Hamilton Sit Out Or Retire Amid 2021 Title Controversy

In 2021 we saw Max Verstappen bring a Red Bull car to victory lane, but more importantly a championship. Verstappen went up against Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton in a neck-to-neck battle all season long that was sparked with controversy. With that said the only proper way for the 2021 Formula One season to end was in a controversial fashion as Lewis Hamilton along with his Mercedes team claimed that they won the championship. Now overall this was not a close finish as there was just over a two second gap, the claim from the team is that Max Verstappen passed Hamilton under the safety car. Overtaking under the safety car would result in giving the position back as soon as possible or face a penalty, at worst a disqualification. Verstappen never did and would end up getting a jump start on Hamilton, which would end up deciding the championship.

The FIA did an investigation that led to no fault on Red Bull’s behalf, keeping the Dutchman as the champion. Before, during and after the investigation fans and the media saw the seven-time champion protest and express his frustration saying essentially that he was cheated out of the championship win. There are now talks and rumors of Hamilton sitting out the 2022 season in protest or retiring before the start of the season. First of all if Hamilton sits out he is hurting no one but himself, the most likely option is retirement as Lewis Hamilton is the man who has done it all with 103 wins, 182 podiums, 7 championships and 103 pole positions he is undoubtedly one of the best diver to ever race in Formula One.
