2022 Formula One testing set off yesterday with the brand new next gen car, and without a doubt it has changed the grid already.
The biggest thing was mileage with multiple cars going past the century mark for laps as Ferrari topped the board, going 153 times around the circuit between its drivers. Two teams encountered trouble as HAAS and Alfa Romeo. The HAAS team had a cooling leak for Nikita Mazepin after just 20 laps along with a broken floor for the Schumacher car. The Alfa team had minor problems which doomed the team early in testing.
When it comes to on track work you now have 20 drivers with brand new offices, the biggest adjustment to the new car is its massive 18-inch tires as they create new/more blind spots
Day one ended with a McLaren driven by Lando Norris in p1 setting the fastest time, he did a total of 103 laps. New Mercedes driver George Russell stood in front of veteran and multi-time champion teammate, Lewis Hamilton with a 1:20.784 lap time, he was just .145 seconds faster than Hamilton.
Going into day two we would see Daniel Ricciardo set the fastest time early in the morning, overall drivers seemed to be more comfortable behind the wheel.
Only a total of ten cars would take on the Barcelona track
A red flag would stop practice after Sergio Perez’s car slowed to a full stoppage on the track.
HAAS would rebound with a sixth place time for Mick Schumacher, the young driver was faster than Red Bull and Mercedes.
